Bahçeşehir University was established in Istanbul on January 18, 1998, by the Bahçeşehir-Uğur Education Foundation. The university began accepting students in the 1999-2000 academic year. Its first campus was located in the Bahçeşehir district. In 2004, the university's departments moved to the Beşiktaş Campus. As reflected in its slogan "In the Heart of Istanbul," Bahçeşehir University boasts easy transportation access and a vibrant, ongoing activity throughout the day. Various events are organized to help students socialize and make the most of their time. One of the most striking aspects of Bahçeşehir University is the high number of international students. The reason for having students from many different countries is attributed to its "central location and international strength." The university provides its students with the opportunity to study in different parts of the world, including places where it has global member institutions such as Berlin, Toronto, Washington DC, Batumi, and Cyprus. Towards the end of the academic year, students also have the opportunity to apply for summer programs abroad.
